Help with searching

Advice page content

You can navigate information on this website using the top menu bar. You can choose which service information you want to search for and choose which topic from the drop-down menu next to each service name (SEND Local Offer of Family Information Service).

Using more than one feature to help you search for information

The search bar lets you search using any combination of categories, keywords, and locations.

Search by Location

Use this to find results that operate in a particular area for example near your home.
Try a placename such as Haggerston, or a postcode E8 1DY

NOTE: Using a location in your search will narrow your search results so if you are looking for a service that works across settings in Hackney for example Educational Psycology you don’t need to add a location.

Search by Category

Use category search buttons or the categories in the drop-down menu for each of the services - Hackney SEND Local Offer or Hackney Family Information Service - if you have an idea of the type of results you want to find.

Search by Keywords

Type one or more words to describe what you are searching for e.g. autism or school admissions.

Typing in a word or a few words into the Keywords box brings you back all entries that contain at least one of the words you have entered. You can also use special characters to limit your results more closely.

The plus sign (+) before a word means that each of the results must contain that word, so the example search below brings back only records results containing both of the words housing and advice, for example +housing +advice

Using double quotes (") around your search words brings back only results that contain those words as an exact phrase, for example, "badminton club". This is helpful if you know exactly what you are looking for but will considerably limit search results.

Don’t use whole sentences as this will confuse the search system. You only need to use the most important word in your search. If you don’t get a result and need help finding the information you need please contact us.

Using search filters

Once you have your search results, you may be able to improve them further by selecting one or more of the search filters which are displayed in lists to the right of your results.

These filters allow you to limit results by the age of your child, their additional need or disability, or whether the service is universal, targeted, or specialist. The more use you make of the filters, the more focused your results will be.

Saving you results as you go

You can add search results to a shortlist as you go and review this information anytime rather than having to look it up again. When you are looking at search results you will see an option to save to shortlist or review your shortlist.

In a similar way to a website shopping cart, your saved information also appears in the same location a basket or trolly might in the top lefthand corner of the website.
