Who are we?

The Traveller Education Service has one advisory teacher (Siobhan Ryan) for primary and secondary pupils, working with Gypsy Roma and Traveller children and young people ranging from 0 – 19 years of age.

Who can we help with? 

Supporting and developing best practice that promotes inclusion and achievement.

The service uses a multi-agency approach in order to get the best outcomes for Gypsy Roma and Traveller pupils by:

  • Providing support to families and schools with access, admission procedures, interviews and induction
  • Providing support to prevent school exclusions
  • Monitoring access and inclusion of Gypsy Roma and Traveller pupils
  • Identifying and tracing children missing education, vulnerable to missing education, vulnerable to exclusion

Special Educational Needs and or Disability (SEND)

The service lead can support clients who have children or young people with SEND to  make a request for an Education Health and Care (EHC) Needs Assessment to help secure enhanced support in school.

Who is eligible?

Any Hackney pupil or student from a Gypsy Roma Traveller background living in or visiting Hackney. 

Referral Details

Providers and parents can contact the service directly by phone. 

Referrals can be made by schools, families and other agencies

The service coordinator is happy to discuss queries or referrals by phone and answer your questions 

What to do if you have a complaint

If you liked or were not happy with something about this service, you can talk to the service lead. They will use your feedback to make sure the service is a good as it can be and try to help sort out any problems.

If you are still not happy with the service you can raise your concerns formally. This means someone who is not part of the service will look at your feedback or concern and see if anything can or needs to be done to help make things better.

If you need to make a formal complaint you can use the London Borough of Hackney complaints procedure.
