Inclusion and Specialist Support Team - Hackney Education

Service details

Who are we?

We are the Inclusion and Specialist Support Team (ISST) for Hackney Education.

We are a team of specialist support services including:

  • Portage Service
  • Early Support and Area SENCo
  • Specialist Teacher Team - including teachers for; Medical Needs, Specific Learning Difficulties, Autism, Assistive Technology, and the Autism Family Support Practitioner
  • Sensory Teams - Visual Impairment, Multi-Sensory Impairment (MSI)/Deafblindness and Deaf and Partially Hearing Team

The Inclusion and Specialist Support Team is composed of specialist teachers and practitioners.

We have a blended offer of online meetings, phone calls, and face-to-face visits.

Most of the teams are allocated to schools, nurseries, and settings across Hackney, usually by either the North or South Neighbourhoods areas. Some do direct work with children, schools, and families according to their SEND needs.

Support from our service can be bought in by schools, as part of the Integrated SEND Traded Offer. The Sensory Teams will continue to provide support outside the Traded Offer and work directly with Children, Young People, Schools, Settings, and their Families.

Who to contact for specialist advice about a child or young person with SEND?

Team managers from each service within the Inclusion and Specialist Support Team are available to offer advice, support, and information.

Each service will do its best to answer individual queries from school staff and parents.

Please contact the relevant managers for further information or discussion.

What to do if you have a complaint

How you feel about having used or experienced a service is important. Services often ask for feedback to help them understand how to make sure people they work with have a good experience.

If you have feedback about a service, something you liked or were not happy with, you can talk to the person who worked with you or, if you feel more comfortable, a service manager. They will try to help sort out any problems.

If you are still not happy you can raise your concerns formally. This means someone who is not part of the service will look at your feedback or concern and see if anything can or needs to be done to help make things better.

If you need to make a formal complaint you can use the London Borough of Hackney complaints procedure.
