Who we are:

The Inclusion and Specialist Support Team has a highly trained team of teachers who are qualified and experienced in meeting the needs of children with a wide range of SEND.

Specialist teachers have specialisms in:

  • Autism
  • Social, emotional and mental health needs
  • Cognition and learning needs including specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia.
  • Complex needs

What we do:

We offer training, support and advice to schools and settings about meeting the individual needs of children and young people, as well as providing direct teaching and intervention.

Specialist teaching is a traded service which schools can purchase.

The Inclusion and Specialist Support Team provide a range of services to schools, settings, families and children and young people with SEND including:

Early Support and Area Sencos

Early Support and Area Sencos are specialist teachers and Early Support Officers who work with families and settings to identify and address children’s needs. They work closely with families, other professionals such as Speech and Language Therapists, and Plan Coordinators to ensure those children that need one have an EHC Plan.

Hackney Portage Service

Portage is a specialist educational home visiting service for pre-school children aged 0 - 5 whose development is delayed and who have special needs. Children learn from birth but some children learn more slowly and parents / carers are not always sure how best to help their child develop. Portage can help parents understand how to encourage a child’s development.

Team for Children with Visual Impairment (VI)

This team provides specialist teaching and intervention for children and young     people with visual impairment.

Team for children who are Deaf or Partially Hearing (DPH)

This team provides specialist teaching and intervention for children and young people who are deaf or partially hearing.

Autism Family Support Worker

The Family Support Worker supports children and families at home, and can support strong links and consistency of practice between home and school.

Assistive Technology

The specialist teacher for assistive technology supports schools to meet the needs of children who may need technology in order to access the curriculum.

Teachers from this team are also working on helping schools use interactive technology to make profiles of pupils and some services. This ensures:

  • information is provided in a visual way that is more appropriate for some children and young people who process information differently
  • enables families to use this to support the "tell it once" approach
  • is person centred
  • can lead to agreed information being shared and accessed in one place
