Description

Who we are:

The Harington Scheme aims to provide young people who have learning difficulties or disabilities with life skills and vocational training that will enable them to participate more fully in living and working in the community.

What we do:

There are four different projects available from The Harrington Scheme.

1. Vocational Training Scheme

This project aims to:

  • prepare people for work,
  • find them employment and
  • support them in their new jobs

Find out more: http://www.harington.org.uk/skills-pathway-retail

2. Harington Gardeners

This is an employment and training initiative offering a stepping-stone for those who cannot go straight into work.

Find out more: http://www.harington.org.uk/gardeners

3. Day Service

This provision offers horticultural activity of a therapeutic nature to adults with a learning disability or mental health support needs.

Find out more: http://www.harington.org.uk/horticultural-training

4. Foundation Skills

This provision equips young people with the basic skills needed for:

  • employment
  • self-direction and
  • personal development

Find out more: http://www.harington.org.uk/skills-pathway-choices

Every learner has an individual programme of activities to support their personal development and skill needs.

Support while you are on the course

At the beginning of the course we will get to know you and find out what support you need.

We can provide:

  • Small group size
  • A key worker
  • Counselling
  • Job coaching
  • Travel training
  • Regular reviews
  • Literacy and numeracy support
  • Advice and guidance
  • Personalised support (subject to funding availability)

Progression

The majority of learners are found a job or further training when they leave and the Scheme supports them and liaises with employers for as long as is needed.

When you are ready to move on, you will get support from the Progression Team in finding a job or further training.

The Team will also provide aftercare when you have left Harington for at least 3 months.

Notes

We can apply for funding for personalised support, such as a support worker or signer.

If you are likely to need this please let us know when you apply.
