Hackney Supported Employment Service
Service details
Who are we?
Hackney Council’s Supported Employment Service can help people with disabilities who live in Hackney find work matched to their individual needs and interests.
Helping people find the work they want empowers them, helps them meet other people, make friends and earn their own money.
Supported employment is an evidence based and personalised approach to working with people who have significant disabilities including:
- learning disabilities
- autism and/or
- mental health difficulties
Supported employment can help support people to find, try out and keep real paid jobs.
What do we do?
As part of the service's individualised approach Hackney Council’s Supported Employment Service may undertake a Vocational Profile. This means they will talk with you to help them better:
- Identify your job preferences
- Advise you on suitable types of jobs
- Understand any learning needs
- Identify any existing individual skills
- Build on previous work experiences
Hackney Council’s Supported Employment Service can also help with:
- contacting employers and finding work opportunities that meet your individual needs and interests
- filling in job applications and writing covering letters
- advice on making health conditions known to an employer
- help explaining periods of unemployment
- help explaining convictions to employers
- writing a new CV or updating one you already have
- supporting you and employers to find suitable recruitment methods
- supporting you during the recruitment & selection process (including interview techniques)
- helping you decide on suitable job goals
- supporting you and employers with Job Coaching so that you can learn the skills needed for the job while already working
- support with work related training
- provide ongoing support when you are in employment or on a placement to help resolve problems that might be experienced in the work place
Notes
Hackney Council’s Supported Employment Service also supports employers by encouraging them to be positive about the skills that people with health and social care needs bring to the business and to reduce barriers to recruiting and retaining employment for people who are affected. They can help employers understand more about making reasonable adjustments that may be needed for potential employees.
