Who are we?
The service assists parents-carers with the management of day or night wetting, and in some cases, where there are also bowel soiling habits.
The service is available to every child 4 - 17 years in the boroughs of City of London and Hackney.
The service includes :
- The Paediatric Continence Clinic
- The Toileting Advisory Service.
- A specialist Drop In parent advice session
How can we help?
The Community Paediatric Continence Clinic
The Community Paediatric Continence Clinic accepts referrals for assessment and management of children with daytime wetting from 4 years of age.
Referrals for those with night-time wetting are accepted once they are over 5 years old.
The service can offer pre and post-void ultrasounds for assessment and treatment options including alarms and medication.
Complex and resistant cases may be referred on to another specialist centre for further investigations.
Note: Children with constipation or faecal soiling without urinary symptoms are not seen in this clinic.
Since the COVID changes the Paediatric Continence Clinic has resumed its services and is seeing new and follow up patients. For further information contact the Community Continence Service by phone on 020 7014 7111.
The Toileting Advisory Service
The Toileting Advisory Service assists parent-carers with:
- Advice on bladder and or bowel training
- Strategies for potty and or toilet training
- Dietary guidance
- Containment products (absorbent products and toileting aids ) for bladder and bowel incontinence.
Since COVID the Toileting Advisory Service Update which manages the containment product service are still seeing patients and accepting referrals.
Drop-in Service
The drop in service has has resumed since COVID restrictions but with a change and now operates by appointment only. To book an appointment at the Drop in clinic please call 020 7014 7111
At the Children's Continence Drop-in Service you can:
- meet the continence specialist nurse
- ask questions and discuss any concerns about day and night time wetting
- ask questions and discuss any concerns about constipation
- and soiling
- find out about and view a range of children's disposable and washable reusable continence products suited to your child’s individual needs.
- get practical advice on potty training and toileting that is proven to work

- Who is eligible?
The Paediatric Specialist Continence Service is available children and young people aged 4-17 years who are registered with a GP in the London Borough of Hackney or City of London.
- Referral Details
The service accepts referrals from:
- self-referrals from parents and carers
- hospitals
- Children’s Centres
- GP practices
- health and social care professionals
- What to do if you have a complaint
If you have a concern about the care you or a relative or friend is receiving you should talk to the person in charge of your care or the manager of the department.
If you prefer to discuss your concern with someone independent of your care team then you can contact our Patient Liaison and Advice Service (PALS).
The PALS team can help resolve queries and concerns quickly and if you are not happy with the outcome then they can advise you on our formal complaints process.
