Staff culture and training
We work closely with all staff, teachers, office staff, canteen staff, premises staff, to provide training to help meet needs and support a culture of inclusivity.
Support for students before they starting at BSix?
BSix offers open evenings and taster or experience days so that prospective students can try out courses they are interested in, see what works for them and what support might be needed. We will work with individual students to see how best to support their transition.
- We can meet prospective students on a 1:1 basis.
- Arrange to show them round the college, this can be organised during half-term when it is quieter.
- Students can also either or additionally visit during term time to see a regular day at the college while lesson are running and other students are on site.
- Our Inclusive Support Team are involved at every stage of enrolment. Meetings take place with Learning Support Assistants before students begin their course. For example Annual Review attendance for Year 11 students on request.
- Students can be met at the door during their first week and shown where to go. Staff are sensitive to inclusion and sensitive to students wanting to integrate with their non-disabled peers.
Sometimes students become interested in attending BSix after receiving exam results. Where this is the case we will have less time to get to know what their support needs are but we are happy to work with the student and their parents or carers to understand and agree how to support their transition. Now Wrong Door support staff will know how to support and direct specific concerns.
Contact No Wrong Door with any queries where this is the case.

Transition programmes with other schools
We work with local schools to offer young people the chance to join BSix on a part time basis during their last year before going to college. This helps them to get used to the college environment before deciding on their options for the following year. Regardless of their college choice this is a great opportunity to increase their independence prior to starting college.
While students are at BSix…
BSix focuses much it’s support from Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) on collaborative support with parents and partners. This support outside of the classroom helps students to build independence and prepare them for life after college.

A separate calm room is available for students who want or need to be quiet or just chill out.
