Who are we?
The East London CAMHS Crisis Service provides 24 hour support seven days a week to children and young people up until their 18th birthday who are presenting in mental health crisis to Homerton University, Newham University or Royal London Hospitals.
A mental health crisis may include, but is not limited to:
- Being at risk of immediate and significant self-harm
- Feeling emotionally or psychologically distressed
- Having thoughts of suicide
- Struggling to manage an immediate outburst that puts you or others at risk
We are a team of 20 people including:
- 14 Specialist CAMHS Crisis Practitioners
- 2 Senior Nurses
- 2 Consultant Psychiatrists
- an Operations and Transformation Manager
- an Administrator
What do we do?
The East London CAMHS Crisis Service aims to provide the right care, in the right place, at the right time to promote safety and recovery from crisis.
We provide the following to children and young people:
- Therapeutic assessment
- Formulation of collaborative safety and coping plans
- Multi-agency liaison to support appropriate follow up
- Telephone call backs for children, young people, their families or professionals contacting the All Age Mental Health Crisis Line
- Crisis resolution and solution focused brief therapy for 17 ½ year olds

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact the City and Hackney mental health crisis line on 0800 073 0006
You can also access our service by attending the A&E (Accident and Emergency) department at the Homerton University Hospital which is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

- Who is eligible?
Children and young people aged under 18 who are experiencing a mental health crisis, which can include the following:
- Being at risk of immediate and significant self-harm
- Feeling emotionally or psychologically distressed
- Having thoughts of suicide
- Struggling to manage an immediate outburst that puts you or others at risk
- Referral Details
Self-refer by attending one of the A&E departments of Homerton University, Royal London or Newham University Hospitals.
- What to do if you have a complaint
To comment or complain about the service you received please, begin by speaking to any member of staff. This may include your nurse, care coordinator, doctor or receptionist.
CAMHS managers are available to discuss concerns or complaints and aim to resolve matters quickly where possible.
