Waterside Academy
Service details
Waterside Academy is a small secondary school, for boys and girls with a yearly intake of 100 pupils aged 11 to 16. The aim of the school is to offer an educational experience in a calm and purposeful environment.
Waterside gets funding directly from the government and joined the Community Schools Trust (CST) in 2019. Community School Trust was established with the aim of creating great school communities that excel in an atmosphere of challenge and support.
Waterside does not charge fees for pupils to attend the school.
At Waterside Academy:
- Each Year 7 student is provided with a laptop to help ensure barriers to learning are removed.
- The school offers small class sizes and early interventions for pupils who need extra support.
- Personalised pastoral support is offered through a Wellbeing and Achievement Coach who advises and guides each student during weekly sessions.
- State of the art design technology rooms offer a broad range of study options including food technology, music and resistant materials.
- Support is offered to students at every stage of their education from transition from primary school through to post 16 progression.
Support for children and young people with additional needs and disabilities
The government has asked schools and academies to provide information about support for children with additional needs, these are called School SEN Information Reports.
SEN Information Reports (SEN - Special Educational Needs) are intended to tell you the practical day to day approach taken in each individual school.
They should be written in a way that is helpful, clear and meaningful for parents.
Please see the schools website for these reports, ask the school for a printed copy or see the following Hackney Local Offer articles:
School admissions including admissions for pupils with additional needs.
For more information on secondary admissions and supplementary admissions forms and information see the schools own website or Hackney Education's school application information.
The timescale and process for starting secondary school for children with an education, health and care plan (EHC plan) is different from the process for children without a plan.
Meetings are held each year to explain the process and your child's EHC Plan coordinator and primary school SENCo will help you navigate the process.
