Support for pupils with additional needs at Millfields
We believe that every child can make progress and achieve and that it is our job to make sure that this happens. We ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all of our pupils.
At our school, we ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups and this includes ensuring that the needs of pupils with special educational needs are met.
At Millfields, we ensure that all pupils have appropriate, effective, and timely support, challenge, and intervention, in order to meet their social, emotional, and academic potential. This includes children who may have:
- specific learning disabilities such as dyslexia
- children who are more able or gifted
- children who have English as an additional language
- children who have difficulty managing their behaviour
- children with social and emotional needs

The government has asked all schools and academies to provide parents with information about their support for young people with SEN. This is called a School's SEN Information report.
The School SEN Information Report explains the practical day-to-day approach taken by individual schools. They should be written to be helpful, clear, and meaningful for parents. The following Hackney Local Offer help and advice articles explain more about this duty. What is a school SEN information report?
Millfiled's School SEN Information Report is linked to below.
School Admissions for pupils with SEND
Information about the process for applying for secondary school, if you have additional needs but do not have an EHC Plan, is the same as the general admissions process. This information is available on Hackney Education's website here.
Pupils with SEND who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHC Plan) - school admissions
The timescale and process for starting secondary school for students with an EHC Plan is different. A preference form will be sent to you to list the schools you would prefer your child to attend. Find information about secondary choosing and starting at secondary schools (Secondary Phase Transfer)) here.
