Who we are...

Talking Walk-in are Speech and Language Therapy assessment sessions for children under 5 who have difficulties talking, communicating, drinking or swallowing. Therapists can refer on or advise about next steps.


What we do...

If your child is under 5, and having difficulties talking, communicating, drinking or swallowing, the Speech and Language Therapy service may be able to help.

The Speech and Language Therapy service run drop–in assessment sessions called Talking Walk-ins which are run from Children's Centres all over the borough.

If you have concerns about your child’s speech or language development you can just turn up at one of the sessions.

A speech and language therapist will see you and your child play in a group setting, assess their communication skills and will advise you on what any next steps should be regarding additional support.  

If you want to attend a group you can just turn up at one of the sessions.


Venue: John Scott Health Centre 

Time: 9:30 - 11am - 1st Monday of Month,

Dates: 6th Jan, 3rd Feb, 2nd March, 6th April 


Venue: Stamford Hill Community Centre

Time: 1:30 - 3pm , 3rd Tuesday of month

Dates: 21st Jan, 18th Feb, 17th March, 21st April


Venue: Linden Children's Centre

Time: 9:30am - 11am, 3rd Wednesday of month

Dates: 15th Jan, 19th Feb, 18th March, 15th April


Venue: Daubeney Children's Centre

Time: 9:30am - 11am - 1st Wednesday of month,

Dates: 8th Jan, 5th Feb, 4th March, 1st April


Venue: Sebright Children's Centre

Time: 1:30pm - 3pm, Last Friday of month

Dates: 31st Jan, 28th Feb, 27th March, 24th April


Venue: Ann Tayler Children's Centre

Time: 9:30am - 11am, 2nd Monday of month

Dates: 13th Jan, 10th Feb, 9th March, 20th April


Venue: Lubavitch Children's Centre (these session must be booked - 0208 809 9050)

These sessions are for children who may have speech and language support needs who are:

  • Under 5 years old
  • Live in Hackney or the City
  • Do NOT already attend full time school

Just drop-in to all sessions except sessions at Lubavitch Children's Centre which are booked in advance. To book at Lubavitch call 020 8809 9050


It is possible to complete a referral form, in which case you will be sent a specific date and time and will be followed up if you do not attend. 


For children attending full-time school who are over the age of 5 contact the school's Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) who's role is to help you access support from the speech and language therapists, and other services, in school.
