Who we are:

Hackney Community Law Centre is a charity employing solicitors and paralegals to provide FREE and independent legal advice and representation to people living, working or studying in the London Borough of Hackney and neighbouring boroughs.

You can be confident that the quality controls at Hackney Community Law Centre ensure that the legal work and representation on offer is in the best interests of our clients and that the quality of advice given is of a high standard.

Hackney Community Law Centre - Pop-Up Advice Shop Dalston...

Two separate services are available. 


1. Form filling clinic…

The Dalston Pop-Up Advice Shop form filling clinic provides free assistance to help Hackney residence complete:  

  • Personal Independence Payment Forms
  • Disability Living Allowance Forms
  • Employment Support Allowance Forms

How it works…

Phone: 020 7633 4531 and leave a message with your name and contact details and state which form the query is about.

A law student will call you back during office hours.

An appointment may be made with volunteer students from the participating Law Schools. These are usually on Tuesdays at are held at Dalston CLR James Library.

The students will help you to fill out the benefit form during your appointment.

Please bring any paperwork that you think would be helpful. 

Support will focus on form filling not legal advice


2. Free legal advice

The Pop-Up Advice Shop also offers free legal advice to help Hackney residents with consumer and debt issues.

This may be suitable for you:

  • if you owe money
  • you have been contacted asking for the return of the money/payment of a debt owed

How does the legal advice pop up advice clinic work?

Please call this number: 020 7633 4531 and leave a message with your name and contact details

A law student will call you back during office hours.

If your case is suitable, an appointment will be made with a volunteer lawyer on a Tuesday evening between 6pm and 8pm at Dalston CLR James Library.

The lawyer will provide you with a letter of advice and discuss it with you at the appointment.


Offering FREE advice at the pop up is made possible thanks to volunteer lawyers from Debevoise and Plimpton LLP and Faegre Baker Daniels LLP, students from BPP Law School and staff from the London Borough of Hackney Libraries Service.

What to do if you have a complaint

If there’s something you like or are not happy with, then talk about it with the worker or the manager so they can look at how they deliver their service. If you are still not happy, ask if they have a complaints procedure.

The Supervising Solicitor is regulated by the Solicitors Regulatory Authority, and Hackney Community Law Centre is a member of the Law Centres Federation.
