Children's Audiology Hackney Ark
Service details
Who are we?
The Children's Audiology service is based at Hackney Ark Centre for children and young people with special educational needs and or disabilities.
The audiology service sees children and young people with difficulties concerning their hearing or balance.
There are 2 levels of support from audiology.
Tier 2 offers consultation to families and other practitioners.
If they identify severe or complex needs requiring more specialist intervention and assessment the referral will be passed on to the Tier 3 audiology service.
How do we help families, children, and young people?
The audiology services offer:
- Hearing tests
- Diagnosis of hearing problems
- Hearing aids where appropriate.
- Long-term review and follow-up monitoring for children with permanent hearing loss.
- Children requiring further specialist input for example cochlear implants or grommets sometimes used to treat conditions such as ‘glue ear’ may be referred to other suitable services.
- Close working with other services that children with hearing issues may use, such as the Children's Speech and Language Therapy service and the Deaf and Partially Hearing Service with the Education Inclusion and Specialist Support Team.
- Help for children with complex needs
