Description

Who we are...

MARs meetings co-ordinate a range of services for children with complex and multiple health & social care needs within a team of professionals from Health, Social Care and Education.

What we do...

There are 3 different weekly meetings based on geographical areas in Hackney; North, Central and South.

At the MARs meeting the team will:

  • Discuss new referrals to Hackney Ark in a confidential forum
  • Share information about cases already known to someone in the team

The aim of the meeting is to:

  • Decide and arrange initial assessment and support for children and families who have been referred> This may include allocation of a Key Worker to help provide ongoing co-ordination of support to the family.
  • Provide a forum for reviewing and coordination of support being offered to children and families already.
  • Provide a safe environment for staff to express any concerns that they may have in relation to a case with which they are involved and feel that input from the multi-agency team is required to either move things forward for the child and family or to provide peer support the worker in what they are attempting or planning to do with the family.
  • Provide a safe supportive environment for the sharing of potential Child Protection concerns if they arise.

Where do the MARs meetings take place?

All meetings take place at Hackney Ark. Each geographic area in Hackney has a morning allocated for case and referral discussion.

  • North (Children Centre Areas A & B) Thursday 8.45am - 9.45am
  • Central (Children Centre Areas C & D) Tuesday 9am - 10am
  • South (Children Centre Areas E & F) Friday 9am - 10am

Referral Details

Referral form in the download section of this page.

All referrals discussed at the meeting have to come directly from a professional in the first instance.

It is helpful if referrers:

  • make clear in their referrals that the decision to refer has been discussed with parents
  • include as much information whether they be additional reports, assessments or observations to help the team make a decision
  • clearly outline why they are making the referral and what they hope to achieve from the referral.

However, if a child has been discussed at a MARS referral meeting and parents do not feel that the decisions made are appropriate to their child, they can contact the Key Work Team administrator

The views of families and children or young people being referred will be shared with the wider team at the following week's MARs meeting. Previous decisions may be altered as a result of their additional feedback and input.
