Parenting Programmes

Description

What are they?

Parenting Programmes are available across Hackney for parents living in the borough. These Parenting Programmes help parents learn where to get support and how to develop helpful strategies to address issues including:

  • stress or isolation
  • domestic violence or substance misuse;
  • as an introduction for families who arrive in Hackney from another borough, are asylum seekers or refugees
  • any challenges for teenage parents
  • for fathers to be involved with their child from pregnancy

Parenting Programmes are often delivered to groups of parents and carers, who come together to work through a programme which has a proven track record of improving outcomes for families who attend.

Group work gives parents the opportunity to meet other parents who may be experiencing similar issues.

Parenting Programmes are delivered and facilitated by a trained worker who has experience of delivering the programme and supporting parents and carers to develop their parenting skills.

Who should attend and why?

Any parent living in Hackney can attend Parenting Programmes.

Being a parent and raising children is an important and rewarding job. At the same time it can be hard work and challenging. Babies and children change and develop at a rapid rate and parents need to adapt their approach to parenting to keep up.

Parenting Programmes are one type of support available to parents and carers, which provides them with the opportunity to develop their skills and learn helpful strategies to use when parenting and raising their children.

Different Parenting Programmes are suitable for different circumstances
