Parenting Programmes in Hackney

Service details

What are Parenting Programmes?

Parenting Programmes are workshops and courses that help parents:

  • Develop helpful strategies
  • Learn where to get support

Trainers who deliver these programes have specific qualification and experience in supporting parents and carers to develop helpful parenting skills.

Issues parents may be seeking to address might include:

  • Stress or isolation
  • Domestic violence
  • Substance misuse
  • Introductions for families who have come to Hackney from another borough or who are asylum seekers or refugees
  • Challenges for teenage parents
  • Course for fathers to be involved with their child from pregnancy
  • Post diagnostic support for parents of children with additional needs and or disabilities

The programmes on offer in Hackney have a proven track record of improving outcomes for the families who attend. They are often delivered to groups of parents and carers who work through a specific programme together.

Group work gives parents the opportunity to meet other parents who may be experiencing similar issues.

Who should attend parenting courses and why?

Parenting Programmes are one type of support available to parents and carers. Any parent living in Hackney can attend a relevant program.

Babies and children change and develop at a rapid rate and parents need to adapt their parenting approach to keep up with different stages. Raising children is an important and rewarding job. At the same time it can sometimes be hard work and challenging. Learning new skills and strategies can help.

These programs provide opportunities to develop skills and learn helpful parenting strategies.

Are there different programmes for parents of children with additional needs or disabilities?

Yes. There are specific courses run in Hackney for parents who have a child or children who have been newly diagnosed with a special educational need and or disability (SEND).

Often parents are automatically referred to a post diagnostic parenting group but they can also request this through the service providing the diagnosis.
