Skinners Academy

Service details

Skinners is a secondary education academy for girls and boys aged 11-19 years.

It has a specialism in Business & Enterprise and ICT.

Academies are publicly funded independent schools.

Academies don’t have to follow the national curriculum and can set their own term times. They still have to follow the same rules on admissions, special educational needs and exclusions as other state schools.

Academies get money direct from the government, not the local authority. They are run by an academy trust which employs the staff.

Some academies have sponsors such as businesses, universities, other schools, faith groups or voluntary groups. The sponsors are responsible for improving the performance of their schools.

The timescale and process for starting secondary school for children with an education, health and care plan (EHC plan) is different from the process for children without a plan.

A separate application form will be sent to you to list the schools you prefer for your child.

If you wish to transfer your child to another school at any other time of the school year, please discuss this with the your child's headteacher and then contact below to find out the process for an in-year transfer.

Special Educational Needs Administration Team

Information about additional needs:

The government has asked schools and academies to provide information about support for children with additional needs.

SEN Information Reports (SEN - Special Educational Needs) are intended to tell you the practical day to day approach taken within each individual school. They should be written in a way that is helpful, clear and meaningful for parents.

Please see the schools website for these reports, ask the school for a printed copy or see the following Hackney Local Offer articles:
