Gainsborough Primary School

Service details

Who are we?

Gainsborough is a two-form entry primary school in the heart of Hackney Wick for children aged two to eleven years of age. The reception intake is for 90 children per academic year.

Gainsborough School belongs to the Primary Advantage Federation; a group of eight good and outstanding schools who believe their schools benefit from collaborative working. They are committed to a shared responsibility to the wider school community and the improvement of life chances for pupils in the community beyond that of their own schools.

Gainsborough School's unique offer to its pupils

  • Free school meals for all children
  • Free school uniforms on starting at the school
  • Free full-time Nursery places for all its Nursery age children

Breakfast and after-school clubs

Extended schools, after-school clubs, breakfast clubs, and holiday clubs or playschemes, can help parents balance work and family life. They are Ofsted-regulated and offer parents and carers a cost-effective and safe solution to before and after-school childcare.

Information about support for children with additional needs and disabilities

The government has said schools must provide information to parents about the support they give to children with additional needs. These SEN Information Reports (SEN - Special Educational Needs) are intended to explain the practical day-to-day approach taken in each school. They should be written in a way that is helpful, clear, and meaningful for parents.

You can find Gainsborough's School SEN Information Report on the school's website, ask the school for a printed copy, or see the following Hackney Local Offer website articles that explain this duty - What is a school SEN information report?

The Aviary - Additionally Resourced Provision for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs

Gainsborough has an Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP) called The Aviary for Children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Needs (SEMH).

The Aviary offers 10 places for children who have SEMH, an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP), and have been identified as needing additional specialist intervention.

The Aviary provides a nurturing educational environment, with a range of specialist support, and a flexible approach to each individual child’s needs. This ARP meets the needs of children with SEMH who are able to access the National Curriculum, and who would particularly benefit from enhanced levels of specialist support.

Places at The Aviary are allocated by a Panel, held by Hackney Education. The following documents provide more detailed information:
