Hackney Youth Parliament
Service details
Who we are?
The government-funded youth engagement programmes which are now combined under the UK Youth Parliament banner aim to promote the voice of young people at local and national levels.
Hackney Youth Parliament makes sure decision-makers hear the views of young people in the borough.
There are twenty-four elected members of the Youth Parliament and four additional members from specialist forums.
The specialist forums include:
- Young People with disabilities
- Young Carers
- Looked-after Children
What do we do?
As a member of Hackney Youth Parliament, you will learn what it means to participate in a democratic system, advocate for your communities and be a part of creating positive change.
Hackney Youth Parliament represents the views of young people in the borough. They aim to advocate on behalf of all young people in Hackney and contribute to positive changes for them.
They run campaigns about important issues such as mental health and education.
They hold regular events to increase awareness of positive opportunities available to young people and have launched the new Youth Opportunity Fund so youth projects in the borough can apply for funding to improve the lives of young people after the lockdown.
They run and get involved in consultations to make sure they are representing the wider community.
How to get involved?
Are you interested in politics?
Do you want to make a real change in your community?
If you want to take part you can join the elected members in the regular weekly forum meetings and you can become a changemaker.
Elections for the Hackney Youth Parliament take place every two years.
Anyone aged 14-19 (up to 25 if the young person has additional needs and or a disability) can stand as a candidate, as long as they live, work, or study in Hackney.
