Special Schools in Hackney

What is a special school?

Special schools are schools that specialise in providing an education for children or young people who have been identified as having a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for them.

Special Schools educate children whose needs cannot be met within a mainstream setting, and whose parents or carers have agreed to or requested a special school placement.

Most children or young people who attend a special school have a statement or Education, Health and Care Plan.
