Service details

Covid update

  • We are running a project to help reduce social isolation for adults with learning disability.
  • We run an Art therapy workshop (monthly) and run virtual tours, karaoke and quizzes on the other weeks.
  • We meet weekly online on Fridays from 3-5pm via Zoom.

Please contact us to make a referral if you know or you would like to be sent a link for these meetings and activities. Making a referral is easy. You can just send us an email with a little information about yourself or the person you are referring.

We hope to return to face to face meetings as soon as possible, but this will depend on venue availability and the government guidance on social distancing.

Who are we?

Hackney People First are a local self-advocacy service for adults with a learning disability who offer:

  • Support to people to give their views to decision makers who run local services
  • Support to people to make their own needs known
  • Support to help meet other people with a learning disability
  • Teaching others how to work with people who have a learning disability this might be delivering learning disability awareness sessions. Please contact us if you would like to find out more about our training.

What do we mean by self-advocacy?

  • Self Advocacy means that even though a person with a learning disability may ask for support from others, they still have the right to be in control.
  • Self Advocacy is about having the right to make your own decisions.
  • Self Advocacy is about not being controlled or affected by others who might have their own interests.

Why should you join us?

By being part of Hackney People First, people with a learning disability in Hackney can help to make things better for themselves and for others with a learning disability.
