The Inside Me - Counselling Service

Description

Who we are...

The Inside Me is an autism-friendly counselling service, dedicated to supporting young people and their families.

Our counsellors have decades of experience working with young people in schools and with children with special needs.

We provide a supportive, tailored counselling service for children and adolescences with autism spectrum conditions.

We can also work with young people new to their diagnosis, especially those diagnosed late, to help them understand the condition.

What we do...

Counselling can be used to work with young people with autism who begin to display mental health conditions including:

  • anxiety disorders
  • depression
  • obsessive-compulsive disorder

Counselling can also help address problems with:

  • relationships
  • bereavement
  • bullying
  • anger
  • low self-esteem, and
  • self-harm or suicide ideation.

These may be particularly difficult for young people with autism spectrum conditions to process and lead to ‘meltdowns’, where a child may show extreme behaviours like shouting, self-harm, challenging behaviour and repetitive behaviours;

OR

‘shutdowns’, where a person may either partially or completely withdraw from the world around them.

At The Inside Me, we hope to help reduce incidents of meltdowns and shutdowns, by helping young people find different ways to manage their behaviour and cope with their stress and anxiety.

Using a mix of therapeutic techniques, like Gestalt and person-centred therapy, as well as art and play therapy, we hope to help young people explore their perspective of the world in an understanding and safe space.

We support children and young people, aged 11 to 25, who:

  • are finding it difficult to go to school
  • may have developed social anxiety or depression
  • find it difficult to regulate their emotions

There is no minimum or maximum number of sessions as support is tailored to clients needs.
