Huddleston Centre

Service details

Who are we?

The Huddleston supports and enables young disabled people to live the life they choose by creating a voice and a safe space for young disabled people in Hackney.

Our vision is for children and young people with disability living in Hackney to have ongoing opportunity to thrive, achieve their potential and have their rights and interests as individuals met.

What do we do?

The service provides a safe space for young disabled people in Hackney to make friends, take part in regular weekly social, fun, creative activities and opportunities.

We run a range of programs and activities for disabled children and young people, and their carers and families. These include opportunities to:

  • have fun, socialise and make friends
  • informal learning and opportunities to learn and practice independent living skills
  • get creative with arts & crafts, music and theatre
  • be healthy with sports, exercise and healthy eating
  • respite, day trips and outings

Activities for our members

Our young disabled people are what makes the Huddleston Centre. Members are key in planning and discussing ideas for the activities that they would like to do.

Our members have taken part in activities like yoga, movie nights, travel training, wax melts, cyber safety, quizzes, parties, consultations and more.

Our regular sessions for young people are often run in the evenings after school or college. Some activities take place during the holidays.

Huddleston are a partner with the Children’s Disability Forum City and Hackney (CDF). The CDF run engagement opportunities and information and feedback sessions for families and young people about their experiences, priorities, views and wishes which can be shared with health commissioners.
