Thomas Fairchild Community School
Service details
About our school.
Thomas Fairchild is a one-form entry, community school, based in the heart of Hoxton.
In September 2021 the school entered a partnership with New Wave Federation; a group of 3 outstanding schools in Hackney.
We work together to provide a high-quality educational experience for all pupils.
What do we offer?
All children in the school benefit from fantastic teaching, facilities, and enrichment opportunities. This includes:
- First-class Early Years provision
- A robust and vibrant curriculum
- Spacious and modern learning environments
- A wide variety of clubs and trips to complement the curriculum
These help make sure children's time with us is happy and academically rewarding.
Reading is a strength of the school. Staff are well trained and teach early reading well. Pupils who experience difficulties learning to read are quickly identified and additional support is put in place.
Breakfast and after-school clubs
Extended schools, after-school clubs, breakfast clubs, and holiday clubs or playschemes, help parents balance work and family life. They are Ofsted-regulated and offer parents and carers a cost-effective and safe solution to before and after-school childcare.
At Thomas Fairchild, we have a broad Extended Schools offer which includes a Breakfast Club and exciting After School clubs.
Information about support for children with additional needs and disabilities
The government has asked schools to provide information about support for children with additional needs. This is known as the School Special Educational Needs (SEN) Information Report. These explain the practical day-to-day approach taken in school to support children with additional needs. You can find Thomas Fairchild's School SEN Information Report here.
Enhanced Laguaged Resourced Provsion at Thomas Fiarchild
What specialist support does the school offer children with speech and language difficulties?
Thomas Fairchild Community School is a Language Resourced School (LRS). We provide specialist-enhanced provision for children with specific speech and language difficulties.
- Pupils within the LRS are taught in mainstream classes.
- They may be out of the class for intensive support via individual programs.
- Support may be from a Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) or a specifically trained member of school staff in the classroom or in small groups.
- School staff have regular training to understand how to support student learning and development. This training includes adapting lessons and setting targets.
- Two resident Speech and Language Therapists are available at the school to provide regular input for pupils.
How do we work with parents?
Parent-carers of children in the LRS receive:
- termly training with the SaLT
- home programs to ensure that pupil’s language skills are maintained and topped up during the year and outside of term time.
How can I apply for a place at the language resource base?
Hackney Education runs a decision panel to allocate places in the LRS. Places are agreed based on the child’s level of difficulty and their potential to benefit from the intensive support. Find out more about language-resourced schools in Hackney here.
