Cafcass - Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service
Service details
Cafcass is the voice of children in the family courts and helps to ensure that children’s welfare is put first during proceedings.
Cafcass is asked by the court to become involved in cases once an application has been made to the court. Their experienced practitioners provide judges with the advice, information and recommendations they need to make a safe decision about each child’s future. This includes working with children to find out their wishes and feelings, and reporting these findings back to the court. They listen and do not take sides between parents and always remain independent advocates for the children involved in these cases.
Their website provides information, advice and support to children and their families.
If you have any concerns that a child's safety or welfare is being put at risk, it is strongly urged you contact the local authority's children's services department (this used to be called "social services"). Do contact Hackney's First Response Team (Social Services) on 020 8356 5500, out of hours - 020 8356 2710.
In cases where the risk is immediate and urgent, please contact the police directly on 999.
