Telephone: 020 396 07910

Who we are:

The Advocacy Project believes that when an individual has a voice, understands their rights and makes choices, real change can happen.

Advocacy helps by supporting marginalised people to speak up, understand their rights and make choices.

Everyone has the right to influence the decisions that affect their lives.

What we do:

The Advocacy Project have set up a user-led service – Hackney Mental Health Voice – which enables genuine and constructive involvement from people with mental illnesses in City and Hackney.

We have a User Leadership Committee (ULC) of ten local people who have experienced mental illness to shape the services.

Some of the roles of the committee include:

  • feeding into the Mental Health Coordinating Committee,
  • running a user-led evaluation and
  • designing a peer mentoring scheme

“With so many people being impacted by mental illness in some way it is really important that local mental health services are shaped by people who really understand what’s needed from their own experience. This project will provide people with an opportunity to develop skills, find fulfilment and use their expertise to improve things for others”

Bonnie Studd, who will be the Mental Health User Involvement Coordinator
