Who are we?

PBHA (Peter Bedford Housing Association) is an inclusive organisation and is keen to support those that are at risk of loneliness and isolation. This may include people with lived experience of homelessness, mental health conditions, physical disabilities. learning disability, autism, and other impairments.

We do this by providing activities and opportunities to meet other people and learn and develop new skills. 


What do we do? 

Information Advice and Guidance Sessions

With our expert advice and guidance, understanding, and positive attitude, you will be enabled to: 

  • Understand realistic but ambitious goals and learning options suited to your needs and interest
  • Receive support in making decisions about your future
  • Increase your chance of completing education and training opportunities or of maintaining paid work
  • Improve your chances of getting a job

When? Sessions last 1 hour arranged at times that are convenient for you and our advisors.

1:1 Digital Skills Coaching

Get tailored support with a digital champion to improve your digital skills. Topics include emails, shopping online, online forms, filing your information, and more.

Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteering at PBHA is a great way to meet new people, develop and learn new skills, and develop your confidence in a very supportive environment. 

We are always looking for enthusiastic, positive, and supportive people to join us in our mission to tackle social isolation. 

We are recruiting for:

  • Digital Champions who can support people to develop their digital skills
  • Well-being and Support champions to help people feel less alone through befriending or one-off meet-ups. 
  • Gardeners to work with a lead gardener and tend to our community garden
  • Reception and admin volunteers who will be supported to gain key reception and admin skills that are useful for organisation and employers

All volunteers need to have an enhanced DBS check with we can help with.

Meet and Make activities

PBHA offers specialist pre-employment programmes.

Our FREE courses, coaching, and training programmes are open to adults aged 19 plus who are on benefits or a low income. 

Our class sizes vary from 8 to 10 learners per session.
They take place at our wheelchair-accessible Kingsland Hub Venue. 
Some sessions (like our Peer Support Lunch Group) will be available at our Iseldon Hub near Finsbury Park station.
We sometimes deliver some programmes externally in partnership with local organisations.

Drama Workshops

Play drama games, devise, and work on scenes. Come along to build your confidence, improve your public speaking, and develop your performance skills in a safe, creative, and supportive environment. 

When? Wednesday's from 1 pm. This is a 6-week course with a 1-week break.

DIY For Beginners - introduction to furniture making

This is a beginner's introduction to furniture construction methods. Make a small stool from scratch and learn skills that you can apply to other furniture-making DIY (Do-It-Yourself). This course is a great introduction to working with wood. 

When? Mondays at 1:30 pm for 6 weeks. 

Health and Well-being resilience course

Learn about the skills and tools needed to cope with stress. Practice self-compassion and emerge from challenges feeling stronger. 

When? This is a 5-week course held on Tuesdays from 1 pm.

Peer Support Lunch Group

Come and join us for an activity and a free lunch, to chat or just be around people. We offer something different every time. Previous activities have included cooking, gardening, and visits to museums. 

Sessions take place at Iseldon Canteen, 179 A Iseldon Road, Finsbury Park. 

When? Weekly on Thursdays from 1 pm.

Textiles Workshops

With an experienced tutor, discover textile techniques. This course is a full introduction to textiles, with an emphasis on developing a creative approach to projects and work.

Choir

Come and learn new songs, meet new people, and improve and develop your singing in a welcoming environment. We welcome any level of experience.

Creative Fine Arts

Explore your creativity at these sessions. You will have access to a range of materials and expert guidance from a tutor. Learn and be inspired by popular art movements in a fun and relaxed setting.

Joinery and Woodworking Placements

Delivered at our Make & Meet Space, an inclusive, creative, and supportive learning environment focused on reducing loneliness and isolation. We support people to recover, progress, and explore their full potential.

Small group sizes and guidance from a dedicated trainer aims to improve learners woodworking skills via practical carpentry & DIY techniques.
As well as progressing on to working on individual homeware projects, learners will benefit from increased confidence, well-being, and a sense of accomplishment.

When? Tuesdays. Full-day option 10 am to 4 pm. Half-day option 10 am to 12:30 pm then a lunch break and 1:30 pm to 4 pm. 

Costs? Hourly rates are £ 222.88, Half day rates are £ 57.20. Full-day rates are £ 114.40. 

Funding can be accessed via a Personal Health Budget or a Personal Budget from social services. Please speak with your Social Worker, Mental Health Practitioner, or Occupational Therapist to find out more about Personal Budgets.

Who is eligible?

Most of our courses are funded so are free to attend. 

We offer a specialist Joinery Placement Programme that has hourly, half-day, and full-day costs. Clients can use a Personal Budget to pay for this training course.
