School Exclusion Officers - Hackney Education

Service details

Who are we?

School exclusion and the issues that cause them can be challenging and have complex causes. School Exclusion officers provide settings, practitioners, school governors, parents and young people with specific advice and guidance.

How can we help?

Our focus is on:

  • Reducing school exclusion
  • Providing signposting to support services and relevant resources
  • Contributing to preventative strategies that help avoid exclusion
  • Offering training on legal considerations and the exclusion process
  • Ensure statutory responsibilities are being met.
  • During fixed term or permanent exclusions making sure pupils receive their statutory entitlements to education
  • Monitoring the progress and engagement of pupils who have been permanently excluded until they can return to a mainstream setting
  • Facilitate the 'managed move' process for pupils in secondary school (by direct request only)

What to do if you have a complaint

Your experienced of a service is important. Services often ask for feedback to help them understand how to make sure people they work with have a good experience.

If you have feedback about this service, something you liked or were not happy with, you can talk to the person who worked with you or, if you feel more comfortable, a service manager. They will try to help sort out any problems.

If you are still not happy with the service you can raise your concerns formally. This means someone who is not part of the service will look at your feedback or concern and see if anything can or needs to be done to help make things better.

If you need to make a formal complaint you can use the London Borough of Hackney complaints procedure.
