Sensory Team

Service details

Who we are:

The Sensory Team is based within Hackney’s Adult Social Care Services and is for people who are:

  • visually impaired
  • deaf or hard of hearing
  • both of the above

Children and young people who are visually impaired, deaf or hard of hearing will receive support from the Inclusion and Specialist Support Team at Hackney Learning Trust

What we do:

The service aims to give practical information and advice about the registration process and about help, support or services available locally and nationally.

Hackney Sensory Team holds and maintains the Sensory Impairment Registers of Sight Impaired (Partially Sighted) or Severely Sight Impaired (Blind) people who are living in Hackney..

In order to be registered as sight impaired, children and young people needs to visit a Consultant Ophthalmologist (an eye specialist) who will conduct an eye test and complete a Certificate of Vision Impairment (CVI). Referrals to The Sensory Team can be accepted on the receipt of a CVI.

The Sensory Team provides specialist equipment to aid mobility, communication & daily living in response to assessed needs.

We run a drop-in clinic every Thursday 10am – 12noon. Please ask at reception at the Hackney Service Centre for room G.45
