Hackney promises to make sure that your needs, thoughts, and ideas are taken seriously, that you are at the center of all meetings about you (even if you are not able to attend) that you are supported to take part in a way that you feel happy with.

Promise 1 - Your Rights

We promise...

• that we will be honest with you about the reasons you became looked after.
• that we will take time to get to know you and make you feel we are there for you when you need us.
• to make sure your thoughts and ideas are taken seriously whenever important decisions are made about you.
• that you will be at the centre of all meetings about you, even if you choose not to attend. Where you do come,
you will be supported to take part in a way that feels comfortable for you.
• that you will be given the chance to tell us how we can improve our services.

Promise 2 - Where you live

We promise...

• that we will talk to you about plans for where you are going to be living and ask for your views about this.
• to try to find the best home that we can for you.
• that if you need to move home, we will share as much information as we can, as early as we can, about why and
where you may be moving to.
• that we will work hard to keep you safe, in your home, with your friends, where you work or learn and where you
spend time in the community.

Promise 3 - Your Education, Training or Employment

We promise...

• to help you to find the right school, college, course or job for you.
• to listen to you, respect your dreams and do everything we can to help you fulfil your ambitions.

Promise 4 - Your Health

We promise...

• that we will help you to understand and make sense of any difficult experiences that you may have had,
before or after coming into care.
• to do our best to help you get better when you are unwell and to help you to stay well.
• that when you are struggling with your emotional well-being we will talk to you about this and try to get you
the support you need.

Promise 5 - Your Identity

We promise...

• that we will support you to stay in touch with the friends and family who you tell us are important to you, as
long as this is safe for you.
• that we will support you to explore who you are and where you come from and to take pride in your cultural
heritage.
• to celebrate your successes and the things that make you uniquely you.
• to stick up for you and challenge any experiences of racism or discrimination that you may face.

Promise 6 - Becoming An Adult

We promise...

• that we will give you the resources and skills that you need to help you look after yourself as you get older.
• that we will let you know all the options that are available to you at important crossroads in your life, to help
you make decisions that are right for you.
