Post 16 education providers

Considering providers - what to think about

The local authority has a duty to make sure there is efficient use of public money. There is a limit to the funding available to local authorities to provide support to all the children and young people who need extra help in education.

It is a key aim in Hackney that wherever possible the education needs of young people with SEND are met locally. This helps most young people remain with their families and develop their friendships and connections to the community they live in.

When choosing and agreeing to placements with families, as well as careful consideration of the young person's needs and wishes, careful consideration will be given to placement and transport options and costs.

Most young people with special educational needs and or disability can continue their Post 16 education in a mainstream 6th Form, Further Education College, or at the Specialist School maintained by the local authority that they are already attending.

Hackney is creating more specialist Post 16 places with the The Garden specialist autism school.
