Children Missing Education Team

Service details

Who are we?

The Children Missing Education Team help track children missing from education who are defined as all children of compulsory school age who are not on a school roll, nor being educated otherwise for example privately or in alternative provision and who have been out of any educational provision for a substantial period of time. This is usually agreed as four weeks or more.

What do we do?

The team:

  • Identify, make and maintain contact with children living in Hackney that are missing education.
  • Re-engage those missing into appropriate education at the earliest opportunity
  • Identify and maintain contact with children residing in Hackney that are at risk of missing education and allocate appropriate support to ensure continuity of education.
  • Track children moving into Hackney until such time as they are receiving education.
  • Track children that move out of Hackney until such time as they are known to be engaged in education elsewhere.
  • Provide advice and guidance to all services in Hackney regarding children missing education.
