Holiday Playschemes

Service details

What are playschemes and what activities do they offer?

Hackney Education's  holiday playschemes are a mainstream universal offer.

They are fun packed, activity based holiday childcare for the Easter break and for four weeks during the Summer break.

Activities vary but may include:

  • arts & crafts
  • sports
  • team & group games
  • trips out and much more.

The playschemes offer children opportunities to meet and form new friendships with similar aged children and are a great way for them to discover new interests and explore new activities.

Do the Holiday Playscheme offer places for children with SEND?

There are some places available for children with Special Educational Needs and or disabilities (SEND) on our Easter and Summer playschemes.

However places are limited and are allocated on a first come first served basis.

What kind of additional support is on offer for children with additional needs?

Different children need different kinds of support.

Children with less complex needs will be fully included in all activities and a member of staff will be identified as their keyworker while they the attend the scheme.

We are able to offer a range of support from a staff ratio of 1:4 to 1:1 support depending on the needs of the child.

How can I book a place for my child?

These schemes are very popular and parents or carers wishing to book a place for their child should contact the Children's Inclusion Officer well before the end of term if they want a place for their child.

Children who are allocated a place will be given up to 5 days at the holiday playscheme.

To apply for a place for your child, you must contact the playscheme manager at least 4 weeks before the start of the holiday playscheme.

The playscheme manager will arrange a needs assessment meeting with parents to decide the level of support that is needed for each child.

What to do if you have a complaint

Your experienced of a service is important. Services often ask for feedback to help them understand how to make sure people they work with have a good experience.

If you have feedback about this service, something you liked or were not happy with, you can talk to the person who worked with you or, if you feel more comfortable, a service manager. They will try to help sort out any problems.

If you are still not happy with the service you can raise your concerns formally. This means someone who is not part of the service will look at your feedback or concern and see if anything can or needs to be done to help make things better.

If you need to make a formal complaint you can use the London Borough of Hackney complaints procedure.
